Philip Sawyer has been making patterns (not just for clothing) since he first discovered drafting in middle school, although he was drawing exact plans for airplanes, cars, submarines, buildings and anything else he was interested in long before that...all in preparation for building models -- working or static.

In college he discovered clothing and there was no turning back. He has more than 40 years of experience in patternmaking, and in designing and making men's and women's clothing.

Since 2010, he has been teaching Patternmaking, Men's Tailoring and Fine Sewing Techniques for the Rhode Island School of Design, in both in their Continuing Education and undergraduate Apparel programs. He has also mentored or assisted several aspiring graduates as they worked to develop garments or start their own businesses. He is now wanting to share this knowledge with a broader audience.
